For the third and final week of the drawing and visualising project we looked at thumbnail visuals. Designers and illustrators should have the ability to quickly “think” on paper. Creating quick, meaningful, easy to interpret visuals is a vital part of the design process.
Our brief for this week was to choose a theatre production and create 3 posters, showing our thought process through thumbnail sketches. We were to sketch a lot of small and quick ideas and then choose 5 to refine and finally 3 further refined and larger. First thing I did after reading this brief was some research to remind myself of the story of Peter Pan. I made a small poster of key words and characters that might be useful and a variety of posters for real stage productions that caught my eye. Next I started sketching some rough ideas in pencil but after a while I realised without the colour I wasn't getting a real feel for them so I started a new page using pencil crayons (keeping the last page at my side). I then chose my favourite 5 and redid them in paint so they are more vibrant and on a fresh page so I could compare them more easily. Then I chose my final 3. I have presented these on my final pieces page.
